This is used in steel constructions, such as steel skeletons in buildings, hydraulic steel constructions (bridges, dams), crane masts, wind turbines, etc. Characteristics of structural steel are its good weldability, good machinability and relatively low price.
For example
S355J2+N (EN 10025-2).
This is a widely used type of steel that is both weldable and machinable. 355 is the designation for the minimum yield or proof strength in N/mm² (MPa) in the smallest thickness range. J2 is the designation that refers to the impact value at a certain temperature: 27 Joules at -20°C and +N indicates that the material is normalized.
Wear-resistant steels are used, among other things, in parts of tools that require increased resistance to abrasive wear.
To limit wear under impact loads, such as those that occur during demolition work, certain wear-resistant steel types are also used, whereby the improved resistance is obtained by the 'strengthening (hardening) that occurs through deformation. This hardening increases the resistance to wear.
Lasco Staalbouw has various types of this in stock, such as Dillidur, Hardox, Durostat, Creusabro, Quard en Brinar.
We also have welded plates in stock. These are plates that are provided with a very wear-resistant coating, produced by a hardfacing welding process. Such as Trimay en Eipa 480.
The steel grades AH 36, DH36, EH36, FH36, Grade A and Grade D, also referred to as ship plate, are used in shipbuilding, ship repair and offshore.
This is a special type of steel that is used in an untreated (uncoated) state in works of art and for garden containers, among other things, due to a certain degree of weather resistance.
